general

When installing NOVAtherm be sure to:

Keep the product dry at all times.

Do not use NOVAtherm in situations where the product will come into contact with water or moisture. Allow a minimum gap of 25mm from any building surface that is damp or may become damp during the intended use of the building.

Avoid compression of the product, as it will adversely affect performance. Nominal thickness of the product should be maintained at all times. Butt joints firmly together to prevent loss of thermal performance. Allow an additional 25mm when fitting, to achieve a snug fit around the edges. The product is easily torn to required length by hand. Cut to adjusted widths using shears or heavy scissors.

Check for gaps.

Except for the situations outlined below, the maximum acceptable gap is 2mm. Avoid direct contact with down lights, light fittings, pipes or fittings with surface temperatures of 80 degrees Celsius. Cut neatly to achieve a minimum gap of 25mm, to a maximum of 70mm.

walls

In addition to the previous general information, be sure to:

Fix to the top plate using four staples.

Drop, then tear the product to length 25mm greater than required to fill the cavity. Staple to the nog. Repeat the process down the wall.

Restrict the maximum length of a single drop to 3 metres.

roofs and ceilings

In addition to the previous general information, be sure to:

Allow a gap of 25mm from the roofing membranes, building paper or other moisture control elements located above the product, to reduce the risk of damage caused by condensation.

Support the product by battens, PVC tape, or similar, as required.

Achieve temporary support, when the product is fitted between timber framing or battens by stapling to these members.

roofs and ceilings with a pitch greater than 16 degrees

Staple the upper and lower edges of the product to the timber members or battens at 100mm centres.

ceilings with a skillion roof and exposed rafters

Use pre-cut widths to ensure a snug fit.

Place product between purlins to provide a minimum air gap between the insulation and building paper of 25mm.

ceilings with a pitched roof

Start at opposite walls and work back to the manhole laying parallel strips.

Fill the last strip by tearing appropriate widths and laying them in opposite direction to complete coverage.

Lay the product at right angles to the ceiling joists allowing it to sag into cavities, where practical.

Where the ceiling joists meet the roof rafters at the outer walls, tear back approximately 300mm over joists and allow flaps created to drop into cavities. This seals the ends and prevents air movement under the blanket.

ceilings with a skillion roof and non-exposed rafters

Use pre-cut widths to ensure a snug fit.

Insulate between rafters. To avoid slumping, when support is not provided by ceiling joists or battens, staple the product to the rafters as required.
