"It's more than a luxury."
Whether it's for a home or for a business or commercial building, effective insulation is extremely important.

why insulate?
In any building, effective insulation is extremely important. Insulation helps keep the building interior warm, dry and comfortable.
That's a lot healthier for the people living there, and can save significant money in heating. |

energy efficiency
Effective insulation in the ceiling can cut heat losses from a building by about 40%. Insulation in exterior walls can cut losses by even further.

healthy
Because it's drier and warmer, a well-insulated home or workplace is a lot healthier. A cold, damp building can promote mould and mildew, which can lead to asthma, recurring colds and flu. For more information, see the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority website.
A recent study by the Wellington School of Medicine confirmed that people who live in insulated homes are healthier.
The ideal minimum temperature recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for a home is 18 degrees Celsius. Without effective insulation, that temperature is difficult and expensive to achieve.
New Zealand's environment
Increasingly, energy efficiency is an important issue for New Zealand. Our national power supply is not keeping up with rising usage, so new power needs to be generated. As a nation we need to invest in new hydro dams, wind or thermal (coal or gas powered) electricity generation.
These options raise huge environmental issues for New Zealand. By avoiding unecessary wastage of power, we all help minimise the need for New Zealand to invest in future generation.
quiet
A building without insulation is like a drum: Noise reverberates from room to room.
Acoustic insulation between noisy areas (such as a laundry, kitchen or bathroom) and quiet areas (such as bedrooms) prevents noise from travelling. Acoustic insulation is not needed for exterior walls, because the thermal insulation stops the noise.
NOVAhush acoustic insulation is so effective that a television turned on at normal volume will not be heard on the other side of the wall. |

In an apartment complex or commercial building, acoustic insulation between apartments and work areas, and between levels, is extremely important.
Air conditioning systems need to be well insulated to prevent noise from channeling between rooms. Insulation baffle stacks in the ceiling space also minimise noise leakage.
insulation R-Ratings
NOVAtherm and NOVAhush come in rolls. Large areas are covered with a single blanket, instead of many pieces of insulation. |
NOVAtherm sits over framing, not between it, so there are far fewer spaces for warm air to escape.
This is why the "construction" R rating of installed NOVAtherm is higher than pieces, even when the "product" R rating is the same.
